Choosing a historic wedding venue in Nashville is a great idea—it adds a sense of timeless romance to your special day.
When you’re looking for a place that feels like it has a story to tell, you’ll find plenty of amazing options right here in Music City.
As a wedding officiant, I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing these venues firsthand, and I’d love to share my insights with you.
Belle Meade Historic Site & Winery
Picture this: you’re getting married on a historic estate that’s over 200 years old. That’s the feeling you get at Belle Meade Historic Site & Winery. The main house is a beautiful Greek Revival mansion that’s perfect for photos, and the grounds are absolutely stunning.
For your ceremony, you’ll be surrounded by beautiful gardens, and then you can move into their Carriage House for the reception. It has this fantastic rustic yet refined vibe that’s perfect for dinner and dancing. The combination of classic architecture and lush greenery makes it a truly elegant choice.
My personal take: The thing I like most about this venue are the huge, old magnolia trees—maybe because my wife and I had so many magnolia flowers at our own wedding!
Riverwood Mansion
If you’re looking for classic Southern charm, you have to check out Riverwood Mansion. It’s one of the oldest estates in East Nashville, and it feels like stepping back in time. You’ll be surrounded by magnificent magnolia trees and beautifully manicured lawns, which create a dreamy atmosphere for an outdoor ceremony.
One of the best things about Riverwood is how flexible it is; they have beautiful indoor and outdoor spaces that can accommodate weddings of all sizes, so you don’t have to worry about your guest list being too big or too small.
My personal take: It’s not far from where I grew up, but as a kid, I never knew it was there. It’s tucked away in a quiet residential neighborhood, which is so nice. And you’ll not find a better day-of wedding ceremony director than Riverwood’s Joyce!
The Bell Tower
For a dramatic, sophisticated celebration right in the heart of downtown, consider The Bell Tower. It was originally built as a church in 1874, and the architecture is incredible. We’re talking exposed brick walls, soaring vaulted ceilings, and a massive open space that can hold a huge number of guests.
The venue masterfully blends its historic charm with modern amenities, giving you a beautiful, elegant canvas to create the wedding of your dreams. It’s a grand, free-standing venue that’s perfect for a dramatic and unforgettable celebration.
My personal take: Both my wife and I have had the privilege of officiating weddings at Nashville’s Bell Tower. The main room is awe inspiring.
Cheekwood Estate & Gardens
Cheekwood Estate & Gardens offers a unique and picturesque setting. It combines a historic 1920s Georgian-style mansion with 55 acres of botanical gardens. Imagine saying your vows surrounded by vibrant flowers and lush landscapes, with the stunning mansion as your backdrop.
This venue is perfect for couples who want a romantic, garden-party feel. You can have an intimate gathering or a large celebration, and the variety of spaces, from the Reflecting Pool to the Swan Lawn, means you can find the perfect spot for every part of your day.
My personal take: I think I have officiated ceremonies at seven or more locations within Cheekwood alone! It really does give you many options.
The Cordelle
Located near downtown, The Cordelle is a fantastic choice if you want something that feels both historic and contemporary. It’s a unique luxury venue that combines a classic home with a sleek, modern hall and a private garden.
It has a chic, stylish vibe that’s perfect for a couple who wants a historic space without feeling stuffy or overly traditional. The impeccable service and beautiful, adaptable spaces make it a great choice for a stylish, memorable wedding.
My personal take: You are basically downtown without being downtown with all the parking hassles. I suppose that’s one reason I enjoy going there—easy to get to and easy to park.
Scarritt Bennett Center
For a truly classic, breathtaking ceremony, you have to see Scarritt Bennett Center. The campus itself is a historic gem in the heart of Nashville, but the crown jewel is Wightman Chapel. This is a stunning gothic-style chapel that feels like something out of a European fairytale.
The stained-glass windows and incredible acoustics make for an unforgettable ceremony. The grounds are also beautiful for photos, so you can get those classic, romantic shots right after you say “I do.” It’s a truly timeless and traditional option for a wedding ceremony.
My personal take: I have officiated weddings in the grand Wightman Chapel as well as the more intimate Skinner Chapel for smaller weddings –both are impressive in their own respects.
